
The real problem was that I didn't know how to set goals that were realistic. You have to take into consideration what your responsibilities look like for the year, and how much free time you actually have in which to achieve the things you want.
In 2017, I hit all my new year's resolutions because I set myself some smart goals that went hand-in-hand with what I was expecting to get done in a year. Not to be smug, but I'm pretty chuffed.
My goals for 2018.
Here's the round-up:
1. Get a new job / promotion / raise
Like I said in my video, my body runs on progression. I love the job I'm currently in and my priority is to progress within the same company. However, my need for progress runs overtime compared to all my other basic needs, and I wouldn't be me if I didn't constantly have an eye out for all new directions I can pursue.
2. Drink 2 litres of water every day
How basic, right? I haven't got much to say on this. My skin, body and mind will thank me if I stay hydrated. I have a bottle with me at all times and my reminders are all on. I'm trying to train myself to drink out of boredom, rather than snack,
3. Track & share my fitness journey online
This one is a little scary. I'm not really self-conscious of my body, aside from the small boobs thing. I know where I'm doing ok and where I'm doing not-so-ok in terms of my fitness. I won't lie that I'm a little intimidated by all the videos & pictures of girls that fall in that seemingly perfect balance between thin and curvy... But I have every intention of posting pictures & finding a way to post videos. I don't really feel confident enough to turn up to my busy gym with a tripod, and I haven't got a gym buddy to help me... But I will try! I'll be tracking this mostly on my Instagram.
4. Upload at least 52 videos
Simple as. I want to upload at least once a week. All I have to do is stay on top of my filming and staying ahead of schedule so I don't have to rush myself. Balancing full-time work with wanting to sleep, have a life, have clean clothes, clean hair, a tidy home and an active social feed is a struggle. I want to work on managing it all better!
5. Hit 100k on YouTube
Ok, look... I know this is ridiculous. I started 2017 on 20k and set myself the goal of hitting 50k by the end of the year. I then started 2018 with 52k, which is INSANE. Frankly, I felt a bit of pressure to set myself another crazy subscriber goal. I don't think it'll happen, but I'm gonna bloody try.
6. Travel somewhere new
I didn't have time (or money) to travel anywhere but home (Portugal) in 2017. With graduating university, trying to find a job, starting 2 different jobs and moving house, my time & financial commitments were elsewhere. I want to travel somewhere new this year!
Top places on my wishlist are: Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, anywhere in Greece, Tokyo & Kyoto in Japan and finally, Hawaii.
7. Stop caring about an Instagram theme
I think this one will probably be the hardest one for me. Sounds terribly dramatic, but it's true. I get weirdly obsessed with my Instagram theme, to the point where I will really like a picture and not post it because it doesn't "go" with the others. I have driven myself mad archiving my entire feed and not posting for weeks because of the unpleasant pressure I put on myself over the photos I am sharing.
I want Instagram to be fun, which is also why I'm going to start using it for tracking my fitness this year. The real goal here is to take a picture and upload it directly onto Instagram without spending 20 minutes tweaking it on VSCO. What a waste of bloody time.
That's my goals! I want to be able to hold myself accountable for all these things, and sharing online is my way of doing that. 2017 was a year of change - I want 2018 to be a year of growth.
